When I gave birth the first time my husband at the time and my mother were in the room. My mother took pictures but they were very unflattering. I was so excited to share my new baby with the world and tell my birth story but I felt like my pictures didn't show the powerful experience I had. When I gave birth the second time no one took pictures. Since I didn't share the first ones they thought I didn't want pictures. The only images I have of my sweet baby and I and the day we meet, are selfies.
Afterwords my mother offered to hired a newborn photographer who came to the hospital and took images go my daughter. She only stayed 30 minutes and took 5 images. They are beautiful pictures but I wish I had more. My daughters tiny features changed so quickly and now she is 2 years old. Time sure goes by fast before I know it she will be 18 and enrolling in college.
I wish I had more pictures to look back on and remember the beautiful, powerful, and life changing births I experienced and more pictures of my baby from those first few weeks.
It breaks my heart when families don't choose birth photography due to misinformation, cost or general overwhelm doing "all the things" to prep for baby!
